The Danby Fire Station is in need of additional space and renovation. The building was originally built in 1968 and has since had few modifications except as required for normal maintenance. The Danby Fire District serves the Town of Danby, an area of 54 Square miles. The population is growing steadily with 161 housing units added since year 2000. Emergency responses for the Danby Fire District have averaged 177 calls per year for the past five years of which Danby Fire Company has been first responder on 112. Approximately 34% of responses are for fire or related hazards with 66% being EMS/Rescue. Currently four vehicles are housed in a building designed for three. Vehicle bay doors are in poor condition and provide little insulation. Due to state mandated records retention requirements, additional office space is required for the Chief's and District Offices. Currently the District Office occupies space, at the West Danby Fire Station, originally intended for the West Danby Chief's office. Restrooms do not comply with current handicapped accessibility requirements. The meeting room and kitchen facilities are inadequate for public events such as pancake breakfasts and community meetings. Insulation in the building is inadequate. The truck bay floor drainage system needs to be corrected due to deficiencies noted by the DEC. Proposed building additions would provide:
